Privacy notice
Last updated 19 October 2026
This notice explains what personal information Home Assist Teesside ("we", "us") collects, why we need it, and what your rights are. We're a small local business and we keep as little information as we can.
Who we are
Home Assist Teesside provides home and lifestyle help across Teesside. We are responsible for the personal information described here. You can contact us about it at hello@homeassistteesside.co.uk.
What we collect
- When you send an enquiry: your name, phone number, email address if you give it, postcode, and what you'd like help with.
- If you become a customer: your address, how we get in (for example key or key safe details), an emergency contact if you choose to give one, the jobs you'd like doing and any notes about how you like things done, and records of visits and payments.
- If you apply to be a helper: your name, contact details, postcode, the work you'd like to do, when you're free, whether you drive, your DBS check status, and what you tell us about yourself. If we go ahead, we also keep your references, ID and right to work check, DBS certificate details, insurance certificate and invoices.
- If you book for someone else: the details above about the person we'll be helping. Please make sure they're happy for you to share them with us.
Why we use it
- To reply to your enquiry and arrange a free chat. We rely on our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us.
- To provide the help you've booked, keep your home secure and contact you about visits. This is necessary for our agreement with you.
- To assess helper applications and carry out safety checks before anyone visits a customer. We rely on our legitimate interest in keeping customers safe, and on your agreement when you apply.
- To keep invoices and accounts, which the law requires.
We never sell your information, and we don't send marketing unless you've asked us to.
Who we share it with
Only the services we need to run the business: our website and form host (Netlify), our email and phone providers, our payment provider if you pay by card, and our accountant. Each of them must keep your information secure. We'll also share information if the law requires us to, or if we believe someone is at risk of serious harm.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries that don't lead to a booking: deleted within 12 months.
- Helper applications that don't go ahead: deleted within 6 months.
- Helper check records: kept while you work with us, then deleted within 6 months, apart from invoices.
- Key and access details: deleted, and keys returned, when you stop using us.
- Invoices and payment records: kept for 6 years for tax purposes.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it or delete it, or object to how we use it. Email us and we'll respond within one month. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
